Wake Up Call (JongKey)

Summary: Key gets an unexpected start to his morning.

He’d been dreaming about …something. There had been a lot of stairs and a restaurant…and a cat. Basically, he’d been asleep and he had been quite enjoying the state of unconsciousness. Except that now he could feel himself being pulled from his nonsensical dream, the light coming from the window near the foot of the bed filtering through his eyelids and letting him know that it was morning at least. Still though, he was not yet ready to be awake.
But what had woken him in the first place?
That’s when Key felt the tongue against his cheek and his temple- small and eager. His first thought was Jonghyun because they were in bed together and also because Jonghyun certainly liked to use his tongue. But it didn’t take long for his sleep-addled brain to realize that the tongue was a lot smaller than Jonghyun’s and also that it would be pretty weird for the other boy to wake him up by licking his cheek.
Groaning, Key cracked his eyes open- waiting for his blurry vision to focus on the light-filled room. But before he could, something dark blocked his vision and the tongue started licking dangerously close to his lips.
“Mmph,” he grunted, sitting up and shielding his eyes from the sunlight streaming through the gauzy shades.
Then he felt a weight in his lap and he looked down to find Jonghyun’s dog, Roo, on his legs- wagging his little tail enthusiastically and looking up at him with big brown eyes. He quite resembled his owner in that moment.
“Roo wanted to wake you up,” Jonghyun said from his left and Key turned to see Jonghyun sitting up in bed, legs still under the blanket and a grin stretched across his face.
“I’m tired,” Key complained, rubbing at his eyes.
“Are you excited to see Key-hyung?” Jonghyun asked the dog, ignoring Key’s complaint completely.
“He almost licked my mouth,” he added, watching as Jonghyun stroked Roo’s soft head from where he was still perched in Key’s lap.
“He was just excited,” Jonghyun explained, attention still on the animal, “Yes you were!” he said to the dog, scratching at Roo’s sides and getting him even more wound up than he had been previously.
Roo climbed off Key’s lap and into Jonghyun’s, standing on his thighs in order to reach his face- his little tongue licking at Jonghyun’s chin as his tail became a blur of motion. And as much as Key wanted to be annoyed for having been woken up, it was pretty difficult to be angry at either of the creatures he was currently sharing a bed with.
With a sigh, Key reached out and stroked his hand over Roo’s back which immediately resulted in the dog bounding back over to him and climbing up onto his legs to lick at his face.
“Roo loves his Key-hyung,” Jonghyun cooed, watching the pair and scratching at Roo’s ears.
“Roo!” Key exclaimed, laughing and trying to move away from the dog’s hyper-active tongue, “It tickles! Roo!”
He ended up in a ball on the bed, trying to hide his face from the excited dog whose nose kept trying to breach the small gap between Key’s face and his arm- Roo’s breath making snuffling sounds that tickled Key’s skin and made him squeak as he pressed his face against his pillow.
It may not have been the morning that Key expected or that he thought he wanted, but it ended up being one of those mornings that he remembered forever- not because it was significant in any life-changing way, but because of how perfect it turned out to be.
