“What are you reading?” Changmin asked, coming into the dressing room to find Onew hunched over a magazine.
“Highlights,” the younger boy replied.
“Isn’t that a kid’s magazine?”
“Yeah, but it’s all that I could find. I guess someone brought it for their kid or something,” Onew shrugged, relinquishing his hold on the magazine when Changmin took it from him.
“Goofus and Gallant? Oh my god, I remember this!” Changmin exclaimed, plopping down on the couch next to his boyfriend.
“Yeah, I used to read it all the time when I was a kid.”
“At the department store, Goofus runs on the escalator,” Changmin read, “Gallant stands still on the escalator as it goes to the second floor. Gallant is boring,” he scoffed.
“Well, escalators can be dangerous…” Onew said, though Changmin ignored him and continued reading.
“Goofus cries when his mother removes a splinter. Gallant takes it bravely,” Changmin snorted, “What? Is Gallant a robot? Splinters fucking hurt!”
“This one is pretty reasonable,” Onew pointed, hoping that Changmin would at least agree with something. Onew had always liked Gallant!
“Goofus takes the last apple. Gallant shares his orange. Did I mention that Goofus has better hair than Gallant?”
“I’d share my orange,” Onew mumbled, sitting back to sulk.
“So I’m dating Gallant then?” Changmin joked, turning to the younger boy with a smirk.
“I guess so,” Onew replied with a forced smile, “Just boring old Gallant.”
Changmin grinned at that, his eyes going mismatched.
“Not boring,” he said, leaning in to kiss his boyfriend on the cheek, “Besides, maybe Gallant would run on the escalator if he wasn’t afraid that he’d trip and fall on his face.”
Changmin cackled at his own joke so Onew hit him on the shoulder.
“Ouch!” he pouted, rubbing the spot where he’d been smacked.
“Typical Goofus,” Onew sighed, trying to keep a straight face, “Such a wuss! Crying when his mother removes a splinter, whining when his boyfriend hits him…”
“I don’t think Gallant hits people,” Changmin pointed out with a smirk.
“Only Goofus,” Onew informed him, “He has to keep him in line.”
“Wow, as a child, I never knew that there was a homoerotic undertone to this cartoon.”
Onew opened his mouth to retort, but was cut off when Changmin’s lips slammed into his. Of course Goofus interrupted people as well.
